FAQ
Music Headquarters was founded with the idea of helping inexperienced and undeveloped artists; those who are just starting out, rookies essentially or maybe those who have been around for a while and can't quite figure it out. In our experience, we find that it's not the music that musicians have a problem with, it's the business behind it. Our ultimate goal is to ensure your business affairs are being tended to and that you're taking a professional approach to your career and not treating it like a hobby.
How much does it cost?
$100 to set up your account and you keep 100% of your rights and royalties or $0 and we keep 31% of your music and merch.
What's included in the service?
Management, merchandising and marketing provided by us and access to our network of booking agents, promoters, venues, graphic designers, photographers, videographers, studios, engineers, producers and songwriters.
What should I expect from management?
Your manager will assist you with your business plans, goals, branding and overall development of your careers. They will be your go to person for anything you need and will oversee you execution of the business plan.
How does merchandising work?
All you need to do is submit your graphic design. We make a mock-up of the item, put it on your website, print the merch and ship to fans. You keep 100% of the profit.
How does marketing work?
Depending on your budget this will range anywhere from grassroots, organic development to full ad campaigns, interviews, playlist & radio placements and press releases.
Can you get me paid shows?
Yes, we will put you in touch with our booking agents, venues and promoters. All shows through our network are paid, no pay to play.
Can you get me a record label / investor?
While our management will advise you on how to build your business independently, there's nothing wrong with looking for an investor. We can shop you around and assist you in signing the right deal.
Does MHQ receive a percentage of rights and royalties? Is this a 360 deal?
No 360 deals. Artist keeps 100% of royalties. When you're working with another agency or label they're typically going to take a percentage of your music, merchandise and performance royalties. It's pretty straight forward, when you make more money you have to pay your representation more money. We don't feel this is necessary. Whether you have an excellent month or an average one we do the same job regardless so why pay us more?
How long is the contract?
No contracts, we offer open month to month agreements. If you don't like how we handle your career you can cancel at any time. We also have this clause because we understand that our role is to be a stepping stone for you. We're getting you ready for the next level in your career. Sometimes the next best thing for you is another agency or a label.
Is there creative control over my music?
No artistic direction. No creative control. We don't tell you how to write your music. While we do conduct music reviews, you'll always have final say on your songs and the final product that is released. We're here to give you feedback and be your filter but never to control you and your music.
